Attorneys Mark Kuhar, Jennifer Gornall, and Timothy Wachter will be presenting an Update on the Right-to-Know Law on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. The new Right-to-Know Law became effective on January 1, 2009. Since that time, over 480 appeals have been docketed with the Office of Open Records (as of June 9, 2009). The decisions that are made on these appeals affect the way governmental units should handle Right-to-Know requests.
At the seminar, Attorneys Kuhar, Gornall, and Wachter will provide an overview of how to handle Right-to-Know requests based on the precedents set by the Office of Open Records final determinations. They will also give a briefing on the appeals procedure, explain how to conduct business under the Right-to-Know Law, and discuss many other pertinent topics, including how to handle requests for emails and the importance of an email policy and of following a records retention policy.
